Thank you FIA, for your donation of R15,000 on behalf of the children of St. Joseph’s Home. Accepting the check from Mr. Morris, is Vernon the Human Resources Manager from St. Joseph’s Home, as Ben Lautenbach, a FIA member, and the golf event coordinator and Ronell Petersen from St. Joseph’s look on. The donation will become a part of our “Mind the Gap” strategy to help off-set the Gap between our limited government subsidy and the actual cost of our services. It’s because of the supportive members of FIA and other like minded supporters that St. Joseph’s Home can continue to make a difference.
St. Joseph’s Home has
received a grant from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF) to convert all of our existing electrical geysers to energy efficient solar water geysers.
When the project is complete we will be the only charitable organization of our size, to have 100% solar heated water in South Africa. This will help reduce our carbon footprint. It will also reduce our need for electricity, there-by contributing to the government request to conserve electricity.
The project involves removals of up to 48 old geysers, plumbing work, related site repairs and the installation of new solar water geysers.

The SPAR “Charity Golf Classic” for 2009 took place on the 5th of November 2009. Sr. Boscona, Sr. Annemarie, Thea Patterson and Luis Medina joined them for their “It’s a whole new ball game….go Bafana Bafana Dinner. It was loud…it was fun….and everyone had a really remarkable time!

Spar Western Cape’s Marketing Director Colin Patterson invited Sr. Boscona and Sr. Annemarie to the stage, and presented them with a very generous donation of R200 000, plus an additional R35 000 from an anonymous donor.

Thanks to donations we have been able to start upgrading our bathrooms – a much needed exercise. The donations we received enabled us to replace old baths, basins and toilets that were too high to use for the little ones, tile the floors and walls – which not only looks better but is also easier to keep hygienic.
Our children put on a talent show – and they showed that despite their challenges they all have talent, can have fun and entertain others too! It was a pleasure to watch them go through their paces – dancing, acting, singing…
