Our Gentle Soul
A poem by Sharon Heiston, for our special little boy….
There are only a handful of people that you’ll meet in life
That truly touch your heart and make you glad you’re alive
They’ve got a special presence when they walk into a room
It’s almost like they were sent there
To take away your gloom
They can make you happy when everything seems sad
So happy it almost makes you mad
They forget about their problems and brighten up your day
And you don’t realize it until they’ve gone away
They teach us to enjoy everyday
Live life to the fullest
Laugh, love and play
Because there’s no guarantee you’ll get another day
So if you have a chance to make someone smile don’t pass up the opportunity to make them happy for awhile
It may be their last chance and you’ll remember them and their smile.

We are exposed to overwhelming generosity on a daily basis and our youngest donor is two years old. Caibella asked her friends to give her money for her birthday so that she can help the children at St Josephs get better. Caibella has visited a couple of times and regular asks if the children are getting better……bless her for her kind heart.

‘ I love pizza, my family and I want to become a rich man so that I can buy a house, a car and give all my money to my mommy and daddy.’ Y is eight years old and his incredible fighting spirit has helped him dominate Fanconi Anaemia, a rare blood disorder that leads to bone marrow failure. We are all excited as his mom has come to take him home and we wish him and his family joy and a life filled with laughter, love and good health.

Joppie Fourie has embarked on a courageous journey by walking 10 million steps for cancer in honour of his daughter, Marlene who passed away in 2009 from an aggressive form of bone cancer. Joppie is walking 5100 km, visiting organisations in 43 towns and hopes to raise funds for many of the organisations he visits over a period of one year. We received a visit from Joppie and we were humbled by his dedication and committment to making a difference. We wish him luck and will be by his side in spirit. Follow his journey via FB 10 million steps for cancer.

We at St Josephs believe that we are blessed in so many ways and we want make a real difference by donating toys to the children in Somalia. The toys will be sent through the Gift of the Givers and we hope that our gifts will bring a smile to the children who receive them. We are thinking of them.

St Josephs is often defined by the love and support we provide to each other, but no love is more powerful than the love between the children themselves.

Inspiration often appears at times when we least expect it. We have been inspired by a group of teenagers at St Josephs who spent their weekend time helping the nurses in the younger wards by making beds, folding clothes, feeding babies, cleaning shoes and playing with the children. Each person involved has agreed to do this as a way to say thank you for all that St Josephs has done for them. The St Josephs Teen Alive Group have decided to embark on a journey to empower themselves and to help others and have set goals for themselves. We are so proud of them and have no doubt that they will reach their goals.

We are so blessed to be surrounded by people who care and willing to make a difference. Mandela Day was a day filled with loads of fun and laughter for kids and adults alike. Thank you to all the individuals who spent their time with us: Left Field Advertising, SAPS Border Patrol and FPD Holdings. A note to Reach for A Dream who joined us as a partner and helped organise an afternoon of activities with the mobile MTN Science Unit, Rita Jacobs, Waterfront Drama School and Cape Portfolios. Thank you to Left Field Advertising, Woolworths, Joseph Samuals and Nomfundo Zonke for much needed donations. It was a day that will linger in our memories for a long time.
