We are so blessed to be surrounded by people who care and willing to make a difference. Mandela Day was a day filled with loads of fun and laughter for kids and adults alike. Thank you to all the individuals who spent their time with us: Left Field Advertising, SAPS Border Patrol and FPD Holdings. A note to Reach for A Dream who joined us as a partner and helped organise an afternoon of activities with the mobile MTN Science Unit, Rita Jacobs, Waterfront Drama School and Cape Portfolios. Thank you to Left Field Advertising, Woolworths, Joseph Samuals and Nomfundo Zonke for much needed donations. It was a day that will linger in our memories for a long time.

Special Welcome to Bibi
February 23, 2011Bibi joined us in February as a volunteer from Eindhoven in the Netherlands. She spends her time assisting the social workers and working closely with the kids in the Sunflower ward. Her picture can speak a thousand words and this photo clearly reflects how well Bibi has fitted into the home and how valuable she is to our kids. We hope her stay with us is a memorable one.

DO IT DAY AT ST. JOSEPH’S
November 23, 2010 Xoliswa (far left), Hessel, Mandy and Sabine (all volunteering for Old Mutual’s DO IT DAY “Give a Hand – Change a Life”) came together to help clean the medical ward windows. Mario, the Operations Manager noted that “we have a lot of work keeping five medical wards in top shape, and cleaning the windows is always on our “To Do” list, but the project gets pushed back due to more pressing needs.”
We send out a big thank you to Old Mutual for supporting
‘DO IT DAY’, to Greater Good for connecting the dots and to the four volunteers for helping to keep our view of the world sparkling! Thank you!!!

Muneeb Reaches for A Dream
October 29, 2010St. Joseph’s Home for Children sends a big thank you to Rob, his Dad, to Kevin, to Jenny, to Rapala Sunglasses and to all the wonderful people at “Reach for a Dream” for creating a very special day for one of our little patients. Here is Rob’s story:
Low tide was early Morning on Sunday, so my Dad, my mate Kevin and I (Rob) left home at 05h00 to tow the boat up to Langebaan. We had arranged to meet Muneeb with the volunteer, Jenny, at Langebaan Yacht Club.
Once Muneeb and Jenny arrived, we set out for a fishing spot on the far side of the lagoon, to target Kob. Muneeb looked the part with his new fishing gear, including his Rapala sunglasses, kindly donated by the guys at Rapala SA. After that we headed back towards the island in Langebaan Lagoon, where we catch White Stumpnose. By now Muneeb had found his Sea Legs, and was more confident, so I let him drive the boat. He loved this, as we flew across the lagoon at high speed. It is an awesome feeling to be honest, this still blows me away after 35 years of going fishing.
The fishing in total was dismal with very slim pickings. Even if the fish were biting nicely, I don’t think this could’ve made Muneeb’s day any more enjoyable. We caught a few White Stumpnose, and 1 very nice sized fish too. This we donated to Muneeb’s Ouma to take back with her to Caledon.
All in all, we had a great day out. We are very honoured to have spent our day with Muneeb, he is great little guy! We wish him all the best, and we will hold him in our thoughts.
Please help St. Joseph’s Home to “mind the gap” by making a donation today.
